Summary of Points
The Dawes plan is one of the many ways America tried to make the harsh penalty set by the Treaty of Versailles on Germany easier to work off. The plan was to give money to Germany, to strengthen their economy, who would then pay France reparations, who in turn would repay their debts to the US
Notes
The US gives the money to Germany, for their infrastructure. Germany uses the jobs created, and uses it to pay france. France then gives much of the money to the US, to pay debt.
Subjunctive Question
Had the Dawes plan worked properly, would the Great Depression have occurred, if so, at the same severity?
Qoutes
"There is no legislation--I care not what it is--tariff, railroads, corporations, or of a general political character, that all equals als in importance the putting of our banking and currency system on the sound basis proposed in the National Monetary Commission plan." William Howard Taft
